Resolutions?

Each year about this time we reevaluate our lives, both over the last year and years. I am often asked whether I have made my New Years resolutions and what they are. Resolutions - I often wonder why so many people use the plural form of that word when they ask me.

As I look back, I’ve made my share of good decisions and my share of mistakes, and I see the lessons of both. I have learned about who I am and about my character, how I act in the midst of difficulties and those ever present obstacles and how I react to those seemingly too infrequent good times when life cohesively comes together.

Yet we are asked about what resolutions we make to prevent the same mistakes for the coming year, capitalize on the successes, or just change in general. I no longer ask others about theirs, it seems to me too personal a question.

As for me, I think I will follow the concept suggested by Jimmy Buffett in his song Trip Around the Sun - “I’ll make a resolution to never make another.” Do we really need to wait until the New Year to look at our lives and decide “now” is a good time to implement change? Shouldn’t we be looking at our lives more often, changing things as needed, instead of waiting till end of the year to evaluate what is flawed or burdensome?
No, I think I’ll not make another resolution as long as I can remember not to.

However, I did get several books for Christmas this year and although they look nice next to the existing stack of unread books I already have, they remind me I really need to organize my books as well as other “stacks” of stuff; besides, I do think I need to read more often. I did notice several people reading while working out on the machines at the exercise club. Maybe its best I go to the club more often – I could stand to loose some weight. And it would keep the place a bit cleaner if I picked up whatever mess I make. Dusting, dusting would be good….

Maybe now is a good time to start.

Have a Great New Year

dear gary, i am waiting for words about Him.......you allude to "faith" in your writing; why don't you write about it? open your mind and let His Spirit give you the words. i am certain of their beauty.
